Were you wondering where I’ve been? Well, I’ve been here. I’ve made some pretty delicious treats too, but no photo’s. As soon as I get my camera back, I will make them again and you will definitely see them right here. But until then, here is something you don’t want to miss out on. Homemade Applesauce. I had never even thought of making applesauce from scratch. But when my Mom had an over abundance of fresh apples picked right off the tree, she quickly started making batch after batch of homemade applesauce. I was lucky enough to have been right by her side and she taught me a thing or two about it. And when I took my first taste, I had never tasted anything so delicious. I will never buy store bought applesauce again. There is no comparison. And the only hard part if peeling the apples. Luckily, I have a Pampered Chef apple peeler/corer/slicer. It is a life saver for sure. So when life hands you apples, make applesauce!
Mom’s Homemade Applesauce
6 cups peeled, cored and sliced apples
3/4 cups granulated sugar
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
1. Place sliced apples in a large soup pot. Add the sugar and lemon juice and mix well to coat the apples. Cover.
2. Cook on medium heat for about an hour, or until apples are soft and well cooked.
3. Depending on how you like your applesauce, (I like mine chunky), use a potato masher and mash the apples to the desired consistency. (You can also use a food processor to get a more smooth consistency.)
4. Place in freezer bags and take out and move to refrigerator as necessary. (Mom’s trick to keep it fresh)

Thanks Stephanie! I was wondering if there was anyway to make applesauce without canning it. This is perfect!
That’s pretty much how I do mine, but I actually prefer it smooth. Nice freezer tip!
I love apples. I’ve even got apples in the crockpot right now, for apple butter.
MMM, that looks wonderful. I discovered when I was making baby food for my son that I LOVED pear apple sauce – equal parts pear and apple. I still make it and it is so good, no added sugar needed at all.
I totally need to get one of those peeler/corer things! Your applesauce looks so much better than the stuff in the store.
I’m going to a pampered chef party next week and the apple peeler/corer/slicer is at the top of my list because I’ve been wanting to make applesauce forever! Your recipe was great timing.
My Mom has an apple peeler/corer/slicer that I meant to steal (I mean borrow) last time I was home . .. this recipe gives me more reason too!
Oh this look wonderful! I love applesauce and have never thought to make it myself!
You’ve saved me! I was just looking for applesauce yesterday to do something sneaky with it and realized they don’t even sell it here! I knew I would have to make it from scratch and was going to be on the hunt for recipes asap so I guess I can scratch that!
I love applesauce and this recipe is so easy! How long does it keep in the freezer?
Steph, this looks so refreshing and tasty. Great recipe and cute pics!
I’ve never had homemade applesauce, but I was thinking about making some this weekend. Yours looks fabulous!
Mmm! Your apple sauce looks so delightfully cinnamony delicious!
hi stephanie, i’v been a lurker for quite a while – finally coming out now. great recipes on here and great pics too! i can’t really tell the difference between your cameras, but hope you get your good one back soon!
Great blog! Keep it up!
This recipe looks so good and I love a great applesauce.
Martha
Ya know for you not having a good camera your photos are still stellar.
I bet the smell of apples cooking smelled wonderful. Looks good to me.
I love homemade applesauce and make up a quick batch whenever I cook a pork roast. You’re right – there’s no comparison to storebought. Great blog!
Oh how pretty too! I would love to make homemade applesauce someday! I love how it isn’t just pureed and cooked down to nothing! Great job!
That looks so good! I’ve had homemade apple sauce at a farmers market before, and you’re right, there’s no comparison. I’d never really thought of making it myself. If I decide to, it sounds like I need one of those pampered chef tools! I’m not so into peeling
looks divine….
I just looked at this and practically started drooling on my keyboard…well, not really, but I love applesauce! I make mine thick and chunky and it’s great served warm with vanilla ice cream.
Hi Steph,
Just wondering if you put it in the freezer right away and how long it keeps. Thanks…love applesauce.
