Snickerdoodles

I’m actually surprised I haven’t posted this recipe before.  Yes, everyone has a snickerdoodle recipe, but these are by far the BEST recipe I have ever tried.  And I’ve tried a lot.  But I’ve been making these for my husband almost every weekend for years, only because he begs me too.  He loves them.  No, he worships them.  They are scrumptious!  Give them a try!

And just a heads up for all of you lovely Utah-ns.  Is that what we call ourselves? Anyways, I was asked by a local news talk show (Studio 5) to do a cooking segment on Thursday the 22nd at 11:00 if you want to tune in.  This is my very first EVER cooking segment and I am super nervous, but I couldn’t pass up this opportunity.  I’m really excited.  I will also be having a little chat with the hosts about us Foodies, who we are and why we do what we do.  If anyone more experienced than me has any advice for me, I would love it more than anything!!! So, if you live here in Utah, tune in!  Channel 5, KSL, Studio 5. Have a great week!

Snickerdoodles
makes 3 dozen

3 cups all purpose flour
2 teaspoons cream of tarter
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup butter, softened
2 eggs

1/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cream of tarter, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
2. Using a mixer, cream the sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Add in eggs. Slowly add the flour mixture and mix until well incorporated.
3. Mix together the 1/4 cup sugar and cinnamon. Shape in to 1 1/2 inch balls and dip in the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake at 350 degrees for about 10-12 minutes. Do not over bake or they will be too crispy. Bake just until light and golden.

Hi! I’ve been drooling over your blog for a year or so and don’t think I’ve ever commented, but I just had to tell you that you will do GREAT on Studio 5. I have been on Studio 5 and most recently went on Good Things Utah for my company. My only advice is relax, as impossible as that is to do. If you can, get there as early as possible and just WATCH them get ready on set. Just being there and soaking it all in for a while helps you realize how small the set really is. It looks so big on TV, but they have “scenes” set up in every corner, it’s crazy. Just be yourself, don’t look at the camera, just act like you’re talking to Brooke and Darren like they’re old friends and they’ll make you look GREAT. That’s their job. They never prep you enough to go on tv. I think it’s such “old hat” for them, they don’t realize how nerve-racking it can be for the rest of us who don’t go on TV every day. That 5 minute segment will go by so fast that when it’s over, you’ll think “why did i just freak out for 2 weeks over doing that? that was fun and easy!”

I can’t wait to watch, you’ll do great!

  13. Memoria says:

Is there a substitute for cream of tartar? If I don’t use it, will the texture (and taste) still be okay?

Also, are these cookies soft or hard?

They look awesome! I want to make some now!

  14. Amber says:

I was on Good Things Utah right before Thanksgiving and it was scary. I still watch the clip and just laugh at how nervous I was. So…just remember to smile and be yourself and don’t act nervous. You will do fine!

  15. Melanie says:

Good luck on Studio 5. You’ll do great! Glad you are feeling better and back to baking!

  16. Jamie says:

I think you’ll be great! I don’t live in Utah so I can’t watch but good luck from me anyway. I love your website and am grateful for it all the time. I just have one question for you: do you have any quick freezer recipies? I just got a great one from a friend for chocolate cookies. She freezes the dough into a bar, that later you can cut up to make 12 cookies in a hurry. It’s nice to have when my hubby needs treats for work or home teaching(and tells me at the last minute). So I make up 3 batches at a time and have enough cookies for a really long time. I would love other recipes like that. Just an idea.

  17. Patti says:

I just watched the segment…hot dog muffin cups? Really now. But the apple cinnamon bread cups that you made looked totally tasty. And 20,000 hits? You’ve made it to the big time! Great job on TV today!

Hey Stephanie…WOW!!! Just watched you on Studio 5…you did AWESOME!!!! So fun to watch you and see how well you are doing with your passion for food! Talked with Jamie this am…she was so sad that she can’t get KSL back there…she hopes someone “taped” it (that tells you that it would NOT be me…I am lucky to just get the TV on, with all the remotes it takes!!) Anyway…Congratulations!!! You were really amazing…bet Nate is so proud!!

  20. Cindi says:
